This One Almost Stopped My Heart!
I’ve ad quite a few interesting experiences over the years showing houses, but this one almost stopped my heart!
It was winter, dark by 5 p.m., and I was showing a vacant house to two ladies. I unlocked the door and, as we made our way through the house, I reached for the light switches as we went.
Everything was fine… until it was time to see the basement.
I flipped the light switch at the top of the stairs.
Nothing.
Oh well. Down we go.
I started down the stairs, with my two ladies right behind me. We were making our way into the darkness when, suddenly, from somewhere below came a voice:
“What are you doing in here?”
Well…
My two ladies turned around and high-tailed it back up those stairs! 😂
And me?
My only reaction was:
“No… WHAT are YOU doing in here?!”
I’m pretty sure my heart stopped for a second.
As it turned out, an unhoused person had somehow gotten into the vacant house and had taken up residence in the basement.
I’ve encountered quite a few unexpected things over the years while showing properties, but this one?
This one scared the living daylights out of me!
Definitely one of those real estate stories that gets told around the table… and gets better every time you tell it! 😂
